Toiminta vuodelta 2000 ohjaus Kinji Fukasaku pääosissa Tatsuya Fujiwara ja Aki Maeda.

Joukko japanilaisia koululaisia lähetetään autiolle saarelle mukanaan sattumanvaraisesti valittu ase ja tieto siitä, että vain yksi heistä pääsee saarelta kolmen päivän päästä pois. Nuoret on valikoitu mukaan Battle Royale-nimiseen peliin, jonka osallistujat joutuvat taistelemaan toisiaan vastaan kuolemaan asti.

Vuonna 2000 ilmestynyt legendaarinen Battle Royale ei ole turhaan jäänyt osaksi elokuvahistoriaa. Sota- ja rikoskuvauksistaan tunnetun Kinji Fukasakun brutaali viimeinen elokuva pureutuu viiltävän tarkkanäköisesti syvimpiin kauhukuviimme. Quentin Tarantinon suosikkeihin kuuluvan elokuvan aikuisauktoriteettina nähdään japanilainen viihdealan legenda Takeshi Kitano.

Kolme vuotta Battle Royalen selviytyneiden Shuya Nanaharan ja Noriko Nakagawan pakenemisen jälkeen saarelta maailma on laskeutunut terrorismin aikakaudeksi. Kansainvälisen oikeuden takia pakeneva Nanahara
johtaa villiä seitsemää, BR-vastaista, valtioiden vastaista ryhmää, joka on julistanut sodan aikuisia vastaan, jotka pakottavat teini-ikäiset murhaa toisiaan BR-lain nojalla. Nanaharaa syytetään Capitolin tuhoamisesta. Oikeuden nimissä aikuiset ovat nyt hyväksyneet Millennium-terrorismin vastaisen lain eli BRII: n.
Armeija sieppaa 42 9. luokkalaista matkalla hiihtolomalle. Heidän tehtävänsä on poistaa Nanahara tai kuolla. Yksi opiskelija, joka kieltäytyy osallistumasta, murhataan paikan päällä. Uusien, ankarampien sääntöjen perusteella toisen opiskelijan elektroninen kaulakoru aktivoituu ja tappaa hänet heti. Jäljellä on vain 40 jäljellä?
