" No way The American Scream is actually a movie that exists. It's a holiday horror deep cut from when Culture Shock was a Vinegar Syndrome partner label, and one seriously silly mountain trip from hell. Scenes are structured like any old 80s coming-of-age family comedy film before taking bizarre turns in tone and atmosphere. Every single person on this cast feels like they're acting for a different project and the end result is a nonsensical, neurotic and nightmarish backwoods slasher in a league of its own. I'd imagine this takes place somewhere within the Twin Peaks universe. Barely coherent and incapable of sticking to a genre, let alone their conventions. Mitchell Linden was onto something special, here. "
