It’s not often you come across a film where the hero is a compliance officer – Captain Compliance, as we are now calling him in our house. Michael Keaton is said hero, who travels to Nice to investigate wrongdoing at the French branch of his New York bank. It turns out that there are Russian baddies and French baddies, but the Americans are all good (and even wear 1950s hats). There is a plot of sorts involving money laundering and people trafficking, and Michael Caine plays Michael Caine playing a movie star (that’s the cover story for the money movements: funding a movie). There is quite a lot of the F word, and some nudity and blood, and a script more wooden than Noah’s Ark, but if you’re looking for a film where people talk about suspicious transactions and money laundering disclosures, and a Money Laundering Reporting Officer can outrun six professional assassins, this could be the one for you.
