Box set featuring the feature film and two specials from the cult TV programme. The town of Royston Vasey is populated by many strange and eccentric individuals. 'The League Of Gentlemen's Apocalypse' (2004) is the big screen version of the programme in which misanthropic vicar Bernice (Reece Shearsmith) discovers a prophecy that warns of the destruction of Royston Vasey. The locals then discover that they are in fact fictional creations of the 'League of Gentlemen' comedy troupe. Making their way through a mysterious portal into the real world, murderous butcher Hilary Briss (Mark Gatiss), embittered businessman Geoff Tipps (Shearsmith) and sinister pederast Herr Lipp (Steve Pemberton) confront their creators in an effort to force them to continue writing about Royston Vasey. 'League Of Gentlemen At Drury Lane'(2001) is the live stage adaptation of the popular TV series. In 'The League Of Gentlemen Are Behind You' (2006) the tradition of the great British panto is lampooned by the crackpot crew. The annual panto in Royston Vasey is at least as creepy and wacky as you'd expect.

Box Of Delights is a collection of three DVDs that brings together most of The League Of Gentlemen's non-television work. The three DVDs are:

Live At Drury Lane (Special Edition) - this is a 107 minute live sketch show filmed at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, London in 2001. All the best characters from the television episodes are present - except Harvey and Val, Pop, Hilary Briss and Barbara (though you'll find the Dentons and Pop amongst the extras). There are new sketches, as well as ones from the TV shows and the original live performances circa 96/97. Highlights are a magic show by Dr Chinnery, and Bernice hosting her own chat show. Extras include a behind the scenes documentary (18 minutes), photo gallery and out-takes.

The League Of Gentlemen's Apocalypse - in this 2005 movie we see Hilary, Herr Lipp, Geoff Tipps, Papa Lazarou, Edward and Tubbs infiltrate the real world to prevent The League killing off the inhabitants of Royston Vasey. This is a very entertaining and well-made film, and stands up to repeated viewings. I think the characters make the transition from TV to the big-screen with remarkable ease. There is fun to be had spotting the numerous references to other films, such as The Shining, The Great Escape and the work of Ray Harryhausen. Look out for appearances from comedians Victoria Wood, Peter Kay and Simon Pegg. The DVD is packed with extras - a Making Of documentary (12 minutes), a video diary following a day in the life of Steve Pemberton (12 minutes), a featurette about Hadfield called The Real Royston Vasey (6 minutes), deleted scenes, out-takes and more.

Are Behind You - this 90 minute live show was filmed at the Apollo in Manchester at the end of 2005, and features mostly new material. The first half is a series of Christmas themed sketches. The second half is a pantomime featuring an impressive amount of Royston Vasey characters. Extras on this disc include behind the scenes footage (22 minutes) and deleted scenes (6 minutes).

All three DVDs have commentary by the four members of The League. The two live shows don't have subtitles, but the movie has optional English subtitles for those who are hard of hearing. Each of the DVDs come in a regular sized DVD case and are housed in a cardboard slipcase.

Nothing on these DVDs comes close to the sheer brilliance of the TV episodes, yet there are enough laugh-out-loud moments to keep you entertained. If you're a fan of the BBC television show, then I'd recommend getting hold of this box set. If you are new to The League Of Gentlemen, then you'd be better off first buying The Complete Collection (which contains series one, two, three and the Christmas special).
