"Teach Yourself Finnish by A. H. Whitney is in the old format of TY books, which concentrate on the grammar and vocabulary and less on conversation than the newer editions. Finnish is non-Indo-European language of the Finno group of the Uralic family of languages. It is most closely related to Estonian and less to Hungarian, though all three make up one group. It borrows heavily from the system of grammatical forms in Indic and European languages but with greater development. Because Finnish is not an IE language, few words will have a recognizable spelling for the new student.
