Dennis Gerrard Stephen Doherty (November 29, 1940[1] – January 19, 2007) was a Canadian musician. He was a founding member of the 1960s musical group the Mamas & the Papas for which he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998.

Canadian singer and songwriter born November 29, 1940, in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada and died January 19, 2007, in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. Was a member of the Halifax Three (Nova Scotia trio), The Mugwumps (with Cass Elliot, Zal Yanovsky and Jim Hendricks) in 1964, and The New Journeymen (with John and Michelle Phillips) before his success in The Mamas and The Papas.
