Remake of Larry Cohen's cult 1970s shocker. Bijou Phillips stars as Lenore Harker, a young woman with everything she ever wanted: a beautiful home, a devoted boyfriend, Frank (James Murray), and a baby on the way. However, events take a gory turn when animals and people start turning up brutally dead shortly after the new baby's birth. Could the baby possibly be responsible for these gruesome murders?

Lo and behold, the hybrid bastard child of superman and a . . . werewolf, sees the flouresent lights and celebrate by testing out its powers and painting the walls four shades of red.
The original idea with freak babies was more about the scare in the sixties of how druggabuse affected unborn children. This time it's a teenage mother trying over-the-internet abortion pills. Following up with times.
Already in the original the lethality of the little things were highly exagerated. This movie takes it to WHOLE different dimension. Putting the monster, in monster movie.
As oposed to the original, this little killer looks completely normal without thurough inspection. God(!) help the ones who try. ¨
A few days old he grows tired of sucking blood of mommy and prey upon the defenseless, unsuspecting wildlife. You have to marvel at the slaying of the house cat without getting a scratch, and later beating a rabbit in sprint. Climbing on walls. But I suppose the most impressive one is biting clean through bone (which no animal in the world can).
Fortunately for any possible neighbours, the couple live on the countryside.

Scary as the baby is, the mother was the one that freaked me out. Her reaction to finding her child munching on the guts of a wild animal in his cribb is simply to take the animal to the trashcan. She spends most of the movie in some spooky kind of distant trance of paternal shock, refusing to tell anyone what's going on. Even when her best friend gets butcherd.

I don't think this movie has many redeaming qualities. Far too farfetched for my taste. But I like monster movies. And saddly, this is one of the best in years. They just don't make them like they used to.

P.S. If this child grew to adulthood, he'd be the most lethal creature the history of horror/science fiction had ever produced.
