In an Observer Music Monthly Greatest British Albums poll, keyboard player Rick Wakeman chose Shades of Deep Purple as his favourite British record of all time.

Deep Purple first full lenght "Shades Of Deep Purple" was anything but trivial.
At this stage of their career, DP were hugely influenced by Vanilla Fudge's organ-heavy sound.
In 1968 MK1 was proposing a blend of Psichedelia/Progressive rock and Heavy Rock
SODP has been recorded in 2 days with a four-track recorder and Mixed in 1 day.
First released in USA on Tetragrammaton Records in July 1968 and in UK on Parlophone Mono/Stereo in September 1968.
