An "intensely provocative [and] searing dissection of human behavior" (New York Daily News),Interiors marked a cinematic watershed for Woody Allen. A family in crisis, distress and it seems it has been thus for many years. We meet this family when the father, played by EGMarshall tells his family, wife, Eve played by Geraldine Page, daughter's, played by Diane Keaton and Mary Beth Hurt, that joewvthatvthe. Hildren are grown, he has served his duty, and it is time for him to separate and live by himself. Eve, his wife is a controlling, ice of a woman, mentally ill, and thevdaughters all have anxieties and unmet needs and their unhappy lives. Two are married, thevhusbands not hapoy either. It seems the contagious nature of unhappiness is growing.
As we learn about their lives and the marriage and separation, we wonder how they stayed so sane. Dad meets a woman who is full of fun, Maureen Stapleton, and they become a couple. As trouble whirls around them. This is a somber film, no music, superb acting, and I had such a great sigh if relief that I did not belong or know this family. Woody Allen's film,a good but not great one.
