Brainbox is a highly influential Dutch rock and blues group. Formed in Amsterdam in 1968, the band is celebrated for pioneering the progressive blues and psychedelic rock scene in the Netherlands.
Founders: The group was formed by guitar virtuoso Jan Akkerman, drummer Pierre van der Linden, singer Kaz Lux, and bassist André Reijnen.
Musical Style: Their sound blended American blues, psychedelic folk, and long, improvisational progressive rock arrangements.
Brainbox's Mythology is an essential 3-CD box set compiled by Pseudonym Records that chronicles the seminal years of the Dutch progressive and blues-rock band. It captures the original 1969–1972 lineup featuring guitar virtuoso Jan Akkerman, drummer Pierre van der Linden, and vocalist Kaz Lux.
Emerging from Amsterdam in 1968, Brainbox pioneered the Dutch progressive and proto-prog rock scenes. Their sound seamlessly fused heavy blues, jazz improvisation, and classical flourishes. Shortly after their highly acclaimed debut, Akkerman and van der Linden departed to form the globally renowned progressive rock band Focus.
