Here is a synopsis of the work: A directorial work from the early career of Hiroshi Inagaki, known for films such as "The Life of Matsu the Untamed," "Musashi Miyamoto," and "Volcano Forest." This is the first film adaptation of Shin Hasegawa's play of the same name, and although it has been re-filmed numerous times with stars like Kazuo Hasegawa and Kinnosuke Nakamura, the ending of this particular work differs from the original and subsequent adaptations. It was also the first film produced by Chiezo Production to be selected for the Top Ten (New Film). While there are few sword fighting scenes, the visual composition, praised as "even the birds and leaves are acting," is superb, and it is considered a work that sparked the matatabi film boom.
