I'm a huge fan of J.D Wilkes and the Legendary Shack Shakers, so I may be biased. But I'd still recommend this new record to anyone who appreciates old-time American musical styles. Here you'll hear carefully applied production to stripped-down recordings of what sound like old Appalachian, Tin-Pan Alley, jazz and blues, and all of it's really good. There is a mix of remakes and originals, the latter showing another side of Wilkes that you might not expect from a Shack Shaker. His wife Jessica Wilkes here is an equal partner in the total persona and it's all good. Slappin' the bass is Mark Robertson, who's done the same for LSS for several years now. The result is a lot of fun from a great, talented trio. If you get the chance to see them, do so. They're great live and some of the nicest folks you'll ever meet, to boot. My only beef, totally my own, is that I wish there were more on the album. It's quite short but, I guess, it's better than having filler. Not that J.D. ever gives up any of that.
