The central character in East of Everything is Art Watkins, a man who has spent most of his professional life as a travel writer, wandering the globe in search of paradise. But when his mother dies, Art is summonsed back to the town of Broken Bay and the neglected resort he grew up in with his 'hippie' parents at the eastern-most point of the Australian continent. Once more, Art is forced to decide whether to deal with all of life's glorious complications - or to flee - and as he attempts to unravel the mess of his past, he comes to the ironic realisation that his best hope of happiness is to resurrect the 'paradise lost' he left behind.

When Art (Richard Roxburgh) and Vance Watkins (Tom Long) re-open the doors of the neglected resort they grew up in at the eastern-most point of the Australian continent they're prepared for the place to become a haven for travellers, adventurers and escapees from life's dark places. What they're not prepared for is the arrival of their estranged father. Gerry Watkins (Nick Tate) has disappointed many people over his haphazard lifetime - but hitting the road for a new adventure has always helped him happily forget. So, when the road grows too long and lonely and he returns to stake his eleventh-hour emotional claim on the Far Out East, he's finally forced to face the music. While Vance is willing to forget, Art can only forgive the worst in his father when he begins to embrace the best and its then he discovers his own glorious ratbag within.
