Burning with passion and rage.
In the turbulent Bakumatsu period, a time of swords and blood, this man raced through life like a flame.
Senkichi (Bunta Sugawara), a reckless and hot-headed man, was seriously wounded in a fight at a gambling den. He was rescued by Orin (Mitsuko Baisho), a blind female musician, and healed his wounds at a hot spring in the snowy mountains.
Senkichi took Orin and went to live with Seihachi Ogakiya (Tomisaburo Wakayama). Senkichi had no intention of exchanging oaths of brotherhood with Seihachi; he wanted to become a traveling peddler and live happily with Orin.
Seihachi was captivated by Senkichi's manliness and willingness to risk his life for the woman he loved, but a fight at a gambling den led Senkichi to build a hut on the banks of the Kamo River and open his own gambling den. However, this escalates into a major incident as it encroaches on the territory of Shinz? Nabari (Makoto Fujita)...
*Director Yasushi Kato, who prefers the term "moving pictures" to "film," passionately captures the image of a man who raced straight through Kyoto at the end of the Edo period in this large-scale historical drama, aiming to create a "Grand Moving Picture."
