One of the favorite tropes of the giallo genre was and is the presence of "amateur detectives;" wherein members of the public take on the challenge of solving a spate of mysterious murders. Presented here are a trio of films, all of which rely on this cherished device, and representing three distinct periods in the genre.

Death Carries a Cane (Passi di danza su una lama di rasoio, 1973) - Ohjaus Maurizio Pradeaux
A photographer named Kitty (Susan Scott) watched through a tourist telescope the killing of a woman through the window of a nearby house. She is unable to get a clear view of the killer's face, she reported the incident to the police and soon other witnesses who saw the killer fled are brutally murder, will Kitty be the next victim?

Naked You Die (The Young, the Evil and the Savage / Nude... Si Muore, 1968) - Ohjaus Antonio Margheriti
The corpses are piling up at St. Hilda's School for Girls, leaving top cop Michael Rennie with more than the usual suspects. Is the killer Mark Damon? Peeping Tom Luciano Pigozzi? Or someone else? Mario Bava's original script "Cry Nightmare" was entrusted to director Antonio Margheriti. Be sure to see the Italian version which runs 98 mins.

The Bloodstained Shadow? (Solamente nero, 1978) - Ohjaus Antonio Bido
The body of a schoolgirl is found in a meadow. The murderer is never caught, and years later; a young man named Stefano returns to the island and is reunited with his brother, the local priest.
