Kun Jessica muuttaa takaisin lapsuudenkotiinsa perheineen, hänen nuorin tytärpuolensa Alice löytää talon kellarista Chanuncey-nimisen pehmonallen, johon hän kiintyy erikoisella tavalla. Alicen kepeinä alkavat leikit Chaunceyn kanssa muuttuvat aina vain ahdistavammiksi, ja tytön käytöksen synkistyessä Jessica päättää puuttua peliin vain huomatakseen, että Chauncey on paljon enemmän kuin pelkkä viaton pehmolelu.

From Blumhouse (Insidious and The Purge franchises, Get Out) comes a chilling tale of childhood and repressed memories of the past. After Jessica (DeWanda Wise) moves back in to her childhood home in Louisiana with her family, the reappearance of an imaginary friend from her youth sets in motion a threatening scavenger hunt with Jessica's stepdaughter, Alice (Pyper Braun). As Jessica's memories begin to surface — aided by cryptic stories from an elderly neighbor (Betty Buckley) about a portal to the spirit world— she realizes the imaginary friend she left behind is very real…and very unhappy she left.

A Mind-Bending Premise
Jeff Wadlow (director) credits blockbuster horror producer Jason Blum with inspiring him to explore the frightening world of IMAGINARY. The story’s mind-bending premise provided Wadlow with the opportunity to upend some favourite horror tropes e.g. a troubled family moving into a new/old house

 

The Storytelling

Jason Blum (producer) says the emphasis on practical effects was key to the storytelling — and shocks. “The entertainment value of horror is centered around fear, and the more a filmmaker can create a realistic fear, the more the audience will be immersed in the story and in the horror,” he explains.

 

The Jumpscares

The IMAGINARY filmmakers hope to engage movie audiences with action, suspense, and lots of scares. “I love that horror has this unique ability to elicit intense emotional reactions from audiences, and experiencing that in theatres amplifies those reactions,” notes Blum.
