netistä: Very good debut album, a varied mixture of folk-rock, US country, blues, gospel. "When I'm Dead and Gone" is insanely infectious and there are several more up-tempo tracks as well as more somber acoustic songs. The album is perfectly recorded - it's not overproduced, with subtle brass arrangements. There may be 2-3 ordinary cuts but the rest are all melodic and memorable songs with excellent vocals.
I think overall this is a good album but it just isn't very remarkable. I do think "International" is a fantastic song, my favorite of the bunch but everything else needs to be listened to within the framework of the record to be appreciated. Worth checking out if you like that late 60s/early 70s folk rock sound.
Happily, the album has grown on me over the years. "When I'm Dead and Gone" was the single, and it is a good choice.
McGuinness Flint was a rock band formed in 1970 by Tom McGuinness, former bassist and guitarist with Manfred Mann, and Hughie Flint, former drummer with John Mayall; plus vocalist and keyboard player Dennis Coulson, and multi-instrumentalists and singer-songwriters Benny Gallagher and Graham Lyle.
