Byron Haskin flees from the "Millenium Bug hysteria" into the abandoned forests of the neighbouring mountain on New Year's Eve in 1999 together with his new wife Clarissa and his daughter Joany. However, madness and terror catches up again after a short time. A vicious Hillbilly cannibal clan kidnaps the family to polish up their own gene pool. But before the Haskins become the victim of the degenerated clan, something incredible happens. With the turn of the year, a gigantic monster breaks out of the forest floor: the millennium beetle. This monstrous prehistoric insect has not been seen for 1000 years and is now huge hunger. Now an unexpected battle of survival breaks for everyone.
