Monty Pythonin Lentävä Sirkus saavutti alusta alkaen suosiota Britanniassa uudenlaisella huumorillaan. Huumoriin kuului sketsien pituus, eikä niissä nähtykään totuttua loppuhuipennusta; saumatta liu'uttiin seuraavaan sketsiin.

Hengähdystauoiksi oli tiettyihin väleihin punottu Terry Gilliamin houreisia leikeanimaatiopätkiä, joita voi luonnehtia tajunnanvirraksi ja puhdastyylisiksi aasinsilloiksi.

Kuuluisia/klassisia sketsejä ovat mm. Kuollut papukaija, Hassun kävelyn ministeriö, Lumberjack song, Yläluokan Idiootti -kilpailu ja Espanjalainen inkvisitio.
