Since Blood and the Law (Chi to Okite), Noboru Ando has established himself as a unique presence in the film industry, steadily gaining popularity with each release. Opium Plateau: Charge of the Hell Squad is a highly anticipated war action film distributed by Shochiku and produced by Golden Pro; it marks another collaboration between Ando and the visionary director Tai Kato, following the success of their previous team-up, A Man's Face is His Resume (Otoko no Kao wa Rirekisho). Popular Hong Kong star Peggy Pan joins the cast as the Chinese beauty who crosses paths with Ando. The supporting cast is equally impressive, featuring acclaimed actors Ichiro Izawa and Hideo Sunazuka; Shochiku stars Bunta Sugawara and Keiji Takamiya; veterans Takamaru Sasaki and Atsushi Watanabe; and actresses Nahoko Kubo (returning to Shochiku after a long absence) and Kayoko Honoo. Additionally, the entire "Ushio" fight choreography troupe from Shochiku is featured. A large-scale, epic entertainment film featuring extensive location shooting in Hokkaido, Gotemba, the Asama Highlands, and Lake Sagami. —From the press sheet—

Summer, 1943: The North China front. Army Second Lieutenant Uruki is sent to a wartime penal unit (known as the "Hell Unit") as punishment for defying a superior officer. While being transported, the convoy is ambushed by the Eighth Route Army, and everyone is killed—except for Uruki, who is saved by a beautiful Chinese woman.
