Los Angeles country-rock band who charted the single "Games" in 1971. 

netistä: Singer/guitarist Douglas Mark had previously been a member of The Grains of Sand and pop-psych band The Sunshine Company. Following three albums, in 1970 The Sunshine Company collapsed. 1970 found Mark living in Los Angeles still trying to make it in music. Recruiting drummer Bob Bereman, singer/guitarist Dave Hodgkins and bassist Bill Kirkham, under the name Redeye the quartet was signed by Steve Douglas' Pentagram label. They made their debut with 1970's "Redeye". Produced by Al Schmitt (who was a part-owner of Pentagram), judging by tracks like 'Empty White Houses', '199 Thoughts Too Late' and 'Collections of Yesterday and Now' the guys had clearly been listening to a wide array of Southern California country-rock acts. Buffalo Springfield, Gram Parsons and Poco influences were abundant throughout the set. Largely penned by Hodgkins, tracks like 'Mississippi Stateline' and 'Dadaeleus' Unfinished Dream' also showcased the band's CSN&Y influenced melodies, vocal harmonies, and even occasional jazzy-styled guitar segments. Check out Mark's work on the opening part of 'Oregon Bound'. The CSN&Y comparisons were occasionally truly scary as on the fluke hit single 'Games'. It made for an album that wasn't particularly original, but still had a certain charm. A worthy, if little known addition to the early-'70s country-rock genre. Propelled by the 'Games' single and some favorable reviews the parent album actually sold modestly

60-luvun puolivälin pop-rock-tyylisiä kappaleita, jotka saivat tuotantotyön CSNY:ltä vuonna 1970. Hieman arkipäiväistä lauluntekoa täydentävät hienot sumeat kitaratyöt ja selkeä tuotanto.

"Empty White Houses" on lempeän funky folk rock ja "Mississippi Stateline" näyttää enemmän kuin vähän Creedencen sormenjälkiä. "Oregon Bound" on juuri sellaista takakuistilla soivaa rytmiä, jota etsin tällaisilta maalaisrock-levyiltä.

Olen nähnyt näitä kavereita kuvailtavan country-rockiksi, mikä ei ole täysin sopiva nimitys, ellei CSN&Y:tä pidä country-rock-yhtyeenä.
