A girls delusion and reality are disrupted in a rich-colored and fantastic world. Sion Sono (Love Exposure) creates an anarchistic, radical, beautiful and controversial film that destroys the wall of the expression in his quest to freedom. Kyoko is a twenty-one-year-old artist who loves being at the center of attention. One day, feeling down, she lashes out against her assistant, sexually humiliating her in front of the rest of the staff. Suddenly someone yells Cut! and we realise that they are actually on a movie set.

The movie itself is not for anyone. I think it is just behind love exposure which is an absolute masterpiece if we are going to talk about where I would rate this movie.
There are some other movies that come to mind. Inland empire by David Lynch is certainly one.
To me sion sono and David Lynch are the best storytellers in recent cinema.
Side note :
Tarantino has a good eye and excels at copying things into one coherent story with a good music selection but he doesn't come close to these. I watch a lot of movies and the color names is an idea from the taking of Pelham one two three, the ear cutting is from django. And the standoff is undeniably from city of fire, among other copies. But most will remember these three things from reservoir dogs.
This raises concerns as to what he brings originally. An ai with a feed and some rewriting could come close into recreating reservoir dogs imo. In music he would be called someone who finds a lot of of excellent samples. And he does create something from these samples. But fresh or innovative, how he has been called he is not.
David Lynch I think he censors himself to stay within the boundaries of what the public can take. I think his ideas are more wild, but he finds an excellent balance as to what to show and what not.
( for example gus van sant in his mostly one for one shot remake of psycho, added an unnecessary scene) you have to give the audience some credit. Shyamalan also made that mistake in old explaining something that didn't even hold up in regarding to how hair and nails grow. And especially not in the decomposition with no other life near to it. ) . DL also cut down on the running time of mulholland drive.
Sion sono, I can't tell if he censors himself. I don't think he does. But the distributors to his movie does. There are different cuts of some of his movies according to where they are released. And some of his movies are made into series with more character development.
Love exposure was turned into a series. And forest of love is a also available as a series. Tokyo vampire hotel series got a special cut to be shown at festivals.
Like most excellent film directors, David Lynch, hal hartley, ... music and sound are very important
Sion sono however has committed sexual harassment to women which doesn't influence me regarding his body of work. Yet I think much less of him as a person now. I don't know the details to it, but he surely did something unacceptable. Given this day and age and cases in Hollywood. He certainly isn't the only one. And it doesn't seem as excessive as other cases but he surely mistreated some individuals to who he publicly apologised. An apology doesn't make his wrongdoings OK. So please keep that in mind. If you don't want to watch his work because of that I understand. But you will be missing out on some of the best stuff made for the silver screen.
