This is the definitive high-class ghost story film that pursues the egoism of low-ranking samurai and the existence of vengeful spirits that appear beneath the consciousness of guilt. The sight of the impudent, villainous Tomisaburo Wakayama writhing about while chanting sutras, breaking the common sense of the handsome and gentle Iemon, is well worth watching.
