It is the top-selling album in the Byrds catalogue, reaching #6 on the Billboard Top Pop Albums chart in 1967 and certified a platinum-seller on November 21, 1986. In 2003, the album was ranked number 178 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.

The most well-known of the Byrds' greatest hits compilations, Greatest Hits features what most casual fans would consider to be the most famous songs of the 65-67 Byrds, although Chimes Of Freedom and The Bells Of Rhymney may be less familiar than the rest. A highly enjoyable listen,
