It's hard to believe that The New Black are from Germany with their straight up rock n' roll vibe that holds a southern element along the lines of classic C.O.C. "Better in Black" is a quality album that gives us straightforward riffs, catchy grooves, and down and dirty vocals. Opening up with the uncompromising title track, The New Black lets loose with solid riffs and a chorus that sounds like something from Queens of the Stone Age but much heavier. ""The King I Was" kicks in with an edgy groove and Fludid shows off his fiery vocals. The atmospheric "Into Modesty" and "Happy Zombies" show another side of The New Black with softer vocals and chill guitar in the back, while "Altar Boys" and "Favorite Disease" slam in your face with more edgy guitar and bluesy harmonies showing everyone that The New Black are here to rock. A sweet bass line leads into "Fading Me Out" while Fabian Schwarz and Christof Leim bring in some killer solos and guitar work with "Last Chance to Throw Dirt". While The New Black bring a lot of influences from bands like Kyuss, Soundgarden, and Alice in Chains into their sound, they still know how to hold their own with fresh energy and offer enough variety to keep your attention.
