"Phenomenal drug drama, brimming with New Hollywood realness. The first time I saw this, it blew me away. And the second time was no different. The subject matter is grim and gritty, and is deftly directed and written by Jerry Schatzberg, whose work on this was Oscar-worthy. On that note, the outstanding, triumphant performances from Kitty Winn and Al Pacino ought to have received more notice as well, and were supported superbly by Alan Vint. This is an absolute must-see for its raw depiction of the sleaziest sides of NYC. A+."
