Kwan Tak-hing returns to his iconic role as Master Wong Fei-hung in this late-70s kung fu classic from director Jeong Chang-hwa (King Boxer).

 

Master Wong takes a new student (Carter Wong) under his wing after the young man is soundly beaten by a mercenary master (Hwang In-shik) skilled in hapkido. Meanwhile, Master Wong’s friend is being threatened by a local crime boss who wants to use his factory for opium-related shenanigans has hired the renegade hapkido master as his enforcer.

Eureka! Coming up with the goods again. Beautiful print showcasing some lovely Thai locations. Some of the darker scenes drop a bit in quality if you’re fussy about that but that’s down to the equipment used in 73’, the year it was filmed. Sammo takes a role similar to his Hapkido role here on the peripheral and is also action choreographer. It’s obviously at an early stage in his career but for it’s time the fights and stunts are excellent. Whang-in-Sik is one of the main villains looking similar to his Young Master role with Jackie and his kicking shines here. Plenty of extras on the disc. Well worth adding to your Fu’ library!
