Thank you oh so much, reply the villagers, but here’s what we really need: a teahouse, complete with geishas. West vs. East, conquerors vs. conquered. Guess who wins. “Serious actor” Marlon Brando displayed his versatility by getting laughs (lots of ’em!) in this comic delight based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning play and costarring two top-model Fords: Hollywood star Glenn and stage star Paul, the latter re-creating his Broadway role. Brando’s interpreter Sakini, with more smart maneuvers than Admiral Halsey and his fleet, keeps the construction of both the teahouse and the plot moving at a merry clip. Welcome to the Teahouse, where comedy is served.
