American psychedelic folk/rock band with pop sensibilities. Formed in 1965, they broke up in 1971. Jim Tucker (2) left the band after their third album. Howard Kaylan and Mark Volman later became members of Frank Zappa's The Mothers Of Invention. During the '70s they were also known as the producers Flo & Eddie.
netistä arvioita: So glad I have the gatefold version. If someone picked up this album and listened to it, one might think it's all over the place. The pictures of the individual bands (and their clever names) inside are fascinating in their own right, and since the 'bands' aren't listed on the label, you can make a game out of which song is attributed to each picture and add further interest to each song. The hits 'Elenor' and 'You Showed Me' are there, but that's about the end of the Turtles playing it straight. One such song left of center is 'Food'-- a short stream of consciousness with a recipe thrown in the middle for...ahem...brownies. It points the way that Flo and Eddie would head with The Mothers of Invention as well as with their first few solo records.
Cool album, notorious for the sample De La Soul lifted from ‘I’m chief….’ for the open drum break at the start, used in their ‘say no go’ track.
Good music on its own merits here though with a stoned palette of strange and freaky moves and sounds.
Groovy!
