Mikio Naruse, the director who created numerous memorable masterpieces such as "Floating Clouds," "Meal," and "Wife, Be Like a Rose," is releasing his works from the 1940s in the Toho DVD Masterpiece Selection!
With this release, all of Mikio Naruse's Toho films with existing full-length versions have now been released on DVD.

Noh actor Kitahachi Onchi (Shotaro Hanayagi) decides to meet with Sozan Furuichi (Masao Murata).
Sozan is an insufferable man who keeps a mistress and insists on being called "sensei" (teacher).
Sozan realized Kitahachi's true identity and begged him to sing, but Kitahachi refused.
Sozan felt humiliated and hanged himself. As a result, Kitahachi was disowned and could no longer perform on stage...
The film adaptation of Izumi Kyoka's masterpiece "Uta Andon" was planned during Kyoka's lifetime, and was first dramatized by Kubota Mantaro.
The screenplay for this film was then developed from that. Kimura Sohachi was in charge of historical research. The pairing of the Shinsei Shinpa actors and Toho's Yamada Isuzu also became a topic of discussion.
