On 11 December 2013, the Bank of Russia approved the graphic symbol of the rouble (rouble symbol) in the form of a capital letter ‘P’ - the Cyrillic alphabet version of the letter R — with an extra horizontal line, as pictured. In compliance with Article 4 of the Federal Law ‘On the Central Bank of the Russian Federation (Bank of Russia)’, the approval of the rouble symbol is one of the Bank of Russia’s functions. The design approved by the Bank of Russia garnered more than 61% of the public vote, which was open on the central bank’s website between 5 November and 5 December 2013.
