Pancho Villa is a 1972 Italian-Spanish spaghetti western film directed by Eugenio Martín. It takes as its starting point the life and legend of the Mexican bandit-revolutionary of that name, but has no other basis in historical fact. The film features Telly Savalas, Clint Walker, Chuck Connors and Anne Francis. Shot in Spain, this "brawling spectacle” is an often-overlooked light-comedy satirical facet, which to this day often confuses viewers. The storyline was developed during the Vietnam War and reflected certain antiwar sentiments in an American society. The title song "We All End Up the Same", with music by John Cacavas and lyrics by Don Black, is sung by Savalas.
Letterboxd-sivustolta:
The title Vendetta makes this Spanish-made spaghetti western sound a lot more serious than it is. (It is also known under the title of Pancho Villa.) The film is actually a rather frivolous comedy set during the Mexican Revolution. In the opening scene, Pancho Villa gets his head shaved bald, conveniently making him look more like Telly Savalas. Villa, assisted by Clint Walker as an American mercenary, leads his Army north of the border into New Mexico to acquire some weapons. They are opposed by Chuck Connors as a ridiculously uptight American army colonel. This is not a great western for either action or laughs, but it does deliver a few chuckles here and there, particularly the scenes featuring Connors. If you like old trains, there is a lot of vintage locomotive action on display here. Savalas himself croons the closing credits song.
