1942, Southern Air Force Base.
Under air raids, amidst the blast that shook the earth's axis, Akemi, a dancer entertaining soldiers, and Lieutenant Wakabayashi, an officer in charge of entertaining soldiers, become intimate in an air-raid shelter deep in the jungle.
In 1948, Akemi, having returned to the desolate ruins of Tokyo, becomes an apprentice to Komura Shino, the head of the Komura school of dance.
Six years later, Akemi seeks to advance her own career by using Shino's desire to dance with Kabuki actor Nakamura J?jir?.
At Shuzenji Onsen, she met Jujiro and seduced him.
At the recital, while the headmistress Shino was criticized for being old, ugly, and old-fashioned, Akemi was praised for being fresh and vibrant.
Eventually, Akemi seduced Inokura, Shino's patron, and with his support, founded the Kikukage-ryu school of dance.
Akemi was shaken when she noticed one of the wreaths presented at the completion ceremony of the dance institute.
Wakabayashi's name was on it…
