A man who loved shogi more than anything, and who brought tears to his wife and children countless times.

This film depicts the life of Sakata Sankichi, the "Shogi Demon," through the masterful performance of Bantsuma!

Around the end of the Meiji era, near Tennoji in Osaka.

There was a man named Sakata Sankichi who loved shogi more than anything and was known for his strength that rivaled that of professionals.

His husband's devotion to shogi, neglecting his family, caused his wife, Koharu, constant hardship. Finally, she ran away with their daughter and attempted suicide, but was saved by their neighbors in the tenement.

Upon learning this, Sankichi resolved to give up shogi altogether, but Koharu, sensing her husband's extraordinary passion for shogi, encouraged him, saying, "If you're going to play, become the best shogi player in Japan."
