[Synopsis] The Shinsengumi, a group that made a name for itself in history, was actually a group of killers! This shocking film, directed by Yasushi Kato, sharply exposes and realistically depicts the inner workings of the Shinsengumi, said to be the strongest swordsmanship group in history.

Saburo Enami, a frail country samurai who longed for the fame of the Shinsengumi, begged the First Captain, Soji Okita, to let him join, only to find that life was far more brutal than he had imagined. On the very day his enlistment was decided, a member of the Shinsengumi was executed in front of Enami and the other new recruits for his mishandling of the Ikedaya Incident. Life at the vast Mibu headquarters was also miserable, with constant wounds and injuries, and Enami's only solace was the kind words of the maid, Sato. But even he grew stronger day by day as a Shinsengumi member, and he eventually became willing to kill members who tried to desert on the orders of Isami Kondo. Okita and Sato worry about Enami, who has become an inhumane person, but then it is revealed that he is the nephew of Serizawa Kamo, the founder of the Shinsengumi. Surrounded by the Shinsengumi members, Enami, prepared to die, cries out against the Shinsengumi's wrongdoings!

Hashizo Okawa plays the protagonist, Saburo Enami, the nephew of Serizawa Kamo, who was killed by a Shinsengumi comrade, and who infiltrates the Shinsengumi as a spy for the anti-shogunate faction, seeking revenge. Junko Fuji delivers a passionate performance as the maid, Sato. A star-studded cast comes together in this epic historical drama that exposes the inner struggles of the Shinsengumi as they go against the tide of the times.
